Welcome to ISER

October 29, 2009

Thank you for visiting the Institute of Social and Economic Research at the University of Alaska Anchorage. ISER is Alaska's oldest public policy research organization, founded soon after Alaska became a state. ISER's research offers a broad look at all the issues that have been important in Alaska from the 1960s through the present.

But ISER offers much more than just research—teaching, public service, and student internships, to name some of ISER's other activities.

Alaska's People and Economy, 1867 - 2009

To help celebrate Alaska's 50th year as a state, ISER has put together a timeline of changes in Alaska's population, economy, and government from 1867 to 2009. There's a four-page summary and a more detailed interactive version below. That interactive timeline has historic photos, figures, maps and text explaining major changes, as well as links to ISER publications and Web sites.
